Candel Custom Homes is passionate about building quality homes.
We aim to make the building process a pleasant experience at Candel Custom Homes. Specializing as a design-build firm, our preference is to work with clients from the very beginning of the design process. Certainly, we are also willing to work with clients that have designs in hand. The entire team is involved in every aspect of the build. We truly show our company’s strength in collaborating with homeowners. A collaboration that assists us in crossing over from building a house to your home. Our in-house design coordinator works hand in hand with our clients to ensure a smooth construction that meets the budget with great attention placed on spatial planning. Candel uses construction management software that keeps everyone involved and up to date with the build. The software is web-based, and access is always available to our clients through a personal log-in on an app, downloaded on your device of choice. This platform allows Candel to work as comfortably with local clients as clients that are remote.
With decades of combined experience, our team always feels excited and passionate about every new project. Meet Our Team
Randy Therrien
President & CEO
Randy is a second-generation land developer and builder of both residential and commercial projects. Randy was born in Prince George BC, moved to Vancouver and eventually to Kelowna in 2004. Randy has become a multi award winning home builder in the Okanagan. Since moving to Kelowna, Randy has developed Candel Custom Homes into a group of companies that can tackle almost any project. The Candel group of companies was built on a strong foundation of core values with a diverse team. Without a strong team of suppliers, trades and professionals Randy would not have been able to build the Candel group to what it is today. Aside from the CEO & President of Candel Group Randy is very involved in his son’s hockey as a coach. Everything Randy does whether work related or personal, he gives it 100% effort and takes pride in his craftsmanship and attention to detail. While growing Candel, Randy has remained the first point of contact for all his clients. Working closely with clients and owners alike is Randy’s number one priority on every endeavour that the Candel group is involved with. When not on the job site or in an office meeting, you can find Randy on the golf course, travelling with this family, or cheering on his little ones at their activities.
Kelly Dodd
SENIOR SITE SUPERINTENDENT
Kelly has been involved in the construction industry for the last 32 years, here in B.C. as well as Alberta.
Kelly was technically trained at NAIT as a construction carpenter/cabinet maker. Operator of his own custom design business, he specialized in building professional sound studios. Power Sound Studios, dubbed one of the top 10 legendary studios in Canada, is one of his greatest accomplishments. Kelly proudly worked in collaboration with the legendary designers of Toronto’s acclaimed Metal works studios.
He achieved his audio engineering degree in 2012 and fulfilled a 2-month internship at the Jim Henson’s Studio and the Stone Temple Pilots recording studio in Metro L.A, now named The Fortress. Here, Kelly learned the ins and outs of sound structure designs and coefficient materials.
Switching gears after returning to Canada, Kelly returned to the residential construction industry.
He has served under some of Kelowna’s major builders in Management positions over the past decade. Kelly is highly respected in the industry for his skills in conflict resolution, workplace equality and fairness and emotional intelligence.
He is a devoted family man fiercely proud of his son and daughter, who are currently establishing themselves in Kelowna society. Married to his best friend of 27 years, Kelly is committed to being a part of the community, strengthening the industry we have all come to adore, and embracing its exponential growth and leadership in the building industry.
He is looking forward to meeting, seeing, talking with you at future Candel sites in the coming years.
Natalie Butler
Design Operations Manager
Natalie moved to Kelowna from Maple Ridge in 2013 with a knowledgeable background in the design/home build process.
Natalie’s relationship with Candel started at the time when her and her family purchased a Candel custom home. Natalie joined the Candel team in 2016 and has since been an instrumental team member that our clients quickly become comfortable and confident working with.
Natalie has over 10 years of construction consultation and interior design experience. She is passionate about walking clients through every aspect of the house design process, and loves working alongside Candel Custom Homes to help turn your dream home into a reality.
Afton Therrien
Executive Assistant
Afton operates our social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Afton’s early career was established as a customer service representative in the tourism industry, soon after advancing to the medical field as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
Afton has a great enthusiasm for the housing industry and has been involved in the design/home build process here at Candel since 2009. While raising her young family and personally building multiple homes along side Randy, Afton has learned a great deal related to all that is involved through the building process, giving her that understanding to share with all our clients.
Afton is a dedicated health and fitness participant. When not in the office, Afton is commonly shuttling her young children to their sports, training to run the next half marathon, or you can catch her wine tasting at one of the local wineries.
Sydney Butler

With her keen eye for detail and wealth of administrative expertise, Sydney ensures that our office operations run seamlessly.
Beyond her professional skills, Sydney brings a passion for life outside the office. You might find her hiking through the picturesque landscapes of the Okanagan or cherishing precious moments with her young son. Sydney’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the workplace, enriching both her professional and personal endeavors.

Candel Custom Homes began construction on schedule.
